Treadmills are frequently
used in equine medicine and research for diagnosing and treating
disorders of the musculoskeletal system.
One of the main advantages of training on a treadmill is that
the movement is even. This eliminates the strain put on joints,
tendons, etc. when the horse runs around a curve. The non-skid
running surface is sprung and is therefore ideal for strengthening
connective tissue and conditioning muscles, ligaments and tendons.
The treadmill movement is optimal for horses with chronic joint
problems or horses that cannot be saddled. |

What the experts say:
"The treadmill is essential for our motion analyses
because the measured object cannot move out of the measuring
area. This is very important, because a feature point
always needs to be seen from two cameras."
Prof. Ch. Peham, University Clinic for Ungulate &
Cloven-hoofed Animal Orthopaedics*
"Longer walks on the treadmill greatly encourage
healing, e.g. in the case of tendon problems."
Dr. Peter Kübber, Equine Orthopaedic Specialist* |
